Administrative history The Advisory Committee on the United Nations Emergency Force was established by the first emergency special session of the General Assembly on 7 November 1956 dissolved when UNEF withdrew from the Sinai and Gaza Strip in mid-June 1967. Its mandate was to monitor the situation of the Force and bring any urgent circumstances to the attention of the General Assembly. Chaired by Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold. Representative countries of Brazil Canada Ceylon Colombia India Norway and Pakistan remained consistent throughout the period.
Scope and content Series consists of verbatim transcripts of meetings of the Advisory Committee on UNEF kept by the Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General Andrew W. Cordier. Arranged chronologically.
These records are a photocopied set from the Andrew Cordier Papers held at Columbia University Missions and Commissions - Middle East - Series 8 UNEF.
Conditions of access The series some of which was originally classified strictly confidential was formally declassified in 1991. All other minutes had been marked confidential.
