The United Nations Commissioner in Libya, Adrian Pelt, was sent to the former Italian colony of Libya in 1949 (he remained until 1952) in order to prepare it for independence. The United Nations Tribunal in Libya decided disputes in Libya, 1951-1955.

Records consist of the files of United Nations Commissioner, Adrian Pelt, 1949-1951, and the files of the United Nations Tribunal in Libya, 1951-1955. Pelt's files contain correspondence, reports, including reports and correspondence to the Secretary-General, budgets, minutes, cables, press releases, working papers, and background data on Libya.
These concern the Advisory Council in Libya, Tripolitania, Cyrenaica, and Fezzan, technical assistance, administration of the Commission, protocol, matters relating to the transfer of power to the Libyan government, the Libyan National Assembly, and miscellaneous other matters.
