Back view of the former British Legation which is built into the city wall, remnant of the Venetian occupation in the middle ages. From 1920 (when the powers recognized independent Albania) until 1938 the British kept their Legation at Durres, although the capital was Tirana, in order to be sure of the protection of the British Navy.
