Fonds consists of records of the United Nations Operation in Congo relating to its mandate, missions and operations. Records include correspondence, reports, cables, Registry and non-Registry files on various matters. Fonds is comprised of the following four sub-fonds:

  • Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General in the Congo, Office of the Officer-in-Charge and Office of the Chef of Civilian Operations (AG-008-001)
  • Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (AG-008-002)
  • Branch Offices of the ONUC (AG-008-003)
  • Office of the Force Commander (AG-008-004)

Series consists of appendices, cables, code cables, press statements, situation reports, diagrams, handwritten notes, maps, mission orders, squadron orders, graphs, duty rosters, nominal rolls, indexes, minutes of conferences, reports, routine orders, base orders, and drafts. Subjects include but are not limited to the following: prevention of civil war; photo reconnaissance; training pilots; objectives of ONUC; offensive air support; SARAH equipment for search and rescue missions; repatriation of ACT; reconnaissance by jet fighters; food supply; standard operating procedure for search and rescue missions; flight schedules; flying restrictions/safety; logistics and logistic requirements; and reports on missions, troop positions, UN operations, photo interpretation, daily debriefing, and radar. Correspondents include Dr. Ralph Bunche, Under Secretary for Special Political Affairs; General Kebbede Guebre, Force Commander; General Chr. R. Kaldager, Force Commander; and Major General G.L. Yacob, Deputy Force Commander. Date of establishment occurred on 14/07/1960 by Security Resolution 143 (1960). The date of dissolution was 30/06/1964.
