The task of this mission was to provide good offices in reducing tension between Cambodia and Thailand. The Special Representative was Herbert de Ribbing, and the mission was also known the "de Ribbing Mission." It lasted from August, 1966 to February, 1968.

Series consists of numbered, unnumbered and only code cables (incoming and outgoing), clear cables, correspondence (correspondents include Richard Nixon), memoranda, United Nations documents, meeting minutes and verbatim reports, handwritten notes, drafts of correspondence and reports, speeches, maps, and photographs documenting Ralph Bunche's tenure at the United Nations. Of special note are personal papers of Ralph Bunche, which include publications; drafts; and handwritten notes on meetings and social events, childhood and family reminiscences, commentaries on racial incidents in the U.S. and notes exchanged with the Secretaries-General. Also included in the series are some original papers of Dag Hammarskjold. Bulk of the materials date from 1947-1971. Subjects include peace-keeping efforts in the Congo; Bahrain; India and Pakistan; Yemen; Cyprus; and the Middle East, including the Palestine Mediator's Mission (1948-1949), the Suez crisis, the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), and the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF). Series consists of the personal office files of Brian Urquhart. Many files contain correspondence with public figures, including senior United Nations and government officials and personal friends. Correspondence includes invitations to speak at universities and private organizations, requests for employment, holiday greetings and congratulatory notes and letters related to Mr. Urquhart's promotion to Under-Secretary-General. Also included are records documenting the negative press about the United Nations generated by United States journalists and private think tanks. Included in the series are lists of speaking engagements and copies of speeches and lectures that Mr. Urquhart presented to national and international institutions and organizations such as the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies, the International Peace Academy and Princeton University, and the full texts of and documents related to Brian Urquhart's published writing from 1949 to 1985. These writing files include the background papers and manuscript of Brian Urquhart's book "Hammarskjold" (1972) and his autobiography "A Life in Peace and War" (1987), newspaper and journal articles, editorials, obituaries and statements. Also documenting his role as a public figure are interviews with leading news organizations such as the British Broadcasting Corporation and The New York Times. The series also includes bound volumes of United Nations periodicals; books and other printed material collected by Brian Urquhart; photographs of Brian Urquhart; video cassettes; and audio recordings. Additionally, files related to Ralph J. Bunche, containing biographical data, photographs and writing of Ralph J. Bunche are included in the series. Subject files concern Ralph J. Bunche's retirement from the United Nations; the Ralph J. Bunche memorial at the Rogosin Kidney Center in New York; the Daniel Larue Johnson sculpture dedicated to Ralph J. Series consists of records generated and maintained by George L. Sherry, a principal officer and senior political advisor for Special Political Affairs. Documents include incoming and outgoing cables, memoranda, correspondence, newsclippings, press releases, operation reports of the United Nations Peace-Keeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), letters from private citizens regarding the Congo, the liberation of Antoine Gizenga, draft reports, papers and copies of League of Nations mandates. Subjects include foreign military personnel reported to be "at large" in Katanga; biographies of personnel; reports to the Secretary-General re: the application of Security Council resolutions 21/02, 24/11 and 961; and Belgium nationals reported to be mercenaries in Katanga. Also includes papers on the Dacca relief operation with evaluations of management, bridges, salvage, supplies and fertiliser.

The United Nations Suez Clearance Operations (UNSCO) task was to restore the Suez Canal to operating condition after it was blocked by debris as a result of the 1956 Israel/Egypt War. UNSCO operated between December 1956 and April 1957.

Included are correspondence, reports, working papers, clippings, press releases; and salvage lists, maps and charts showing wreck locations and UNSCO operations.
These concern the dredging of the canal; rehabilitation of maintenance workshops, restoration of navigational lighting and telecommunications; and the resumption of canal traffic.

Series documents United Nations conferences that relate to non-aggressive uses of scientific knowledge and atomic energy. The majority of files pertain to the organization and carrying out of the First United Nations International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1955), the Second United Nations International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1958), and the Third United Nations International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1964). ICPUAE documents include correspondence, reports, programs, handbooks, verbatim records of sessions, bound volumes of conference proceedings and press briefings. Also included are records pertaining to the final Conference on the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency (1956), as well as records pertaining to the IAEA's establishment as an independent organization. A few subject files of the Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation are included. Correspondence, working papers and reports of the United Nations Scientific Advisory Committee and of the Conference on the Application of Science and Technology (1961) are also included (documents of the latter include photographs).
