Code and clear cables

Series dates primarily from 1961-1973 - there are a few items dated 1980. Documented are office operations including personnel administration, contract and purchasing, facilities management, travel arrangements and visits, humanitarian activity, political events, and the activities of peacekeeping and observer missions. Records are incoming and outgoing code and clear cables, as well as numbered and unnumbered cables. Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, code cables, committee notices, minutes and agendas, reports, news clippings, press briefings, books, pamphlets, handbooks, United Nations documents, organization charts, speeches and invitations of files created and maintained by Martin W. Hill during his various positions at the United Nations. There are some background documents relating to the League of Nations ranging in date from 1930 to 1946, but the bulk of the material is from 1944 to 1976.

United Nations events - subject files

Series consists of correspondence and memoranda, incoming and outgoing clear cables and telegrams, press releases, newspaper clippings, and printed materials, such as, programmes and brochures, and speeches and photographs relating to the planning and coordination of United Nations events. Events recorded include Staff Day for 1955 and 1956; and the second, fifth, sixth and tenth anniversaries of the United Nations. The bulk of the material relates to the Tenth Anniversary of the Signing of the United Nations Charter held in San Francisco in 1955 including the activities planned in celebration of the day, such as, art exhibitions and banquets. Other subjects areas cover itineraries, protocol, programme committee plans, and congratulatory messages from governments and the public. UN. Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General - 1946-1961:Cordier

Series consists of documents created by various officials of the S-G's Executive office. The files of Raoul Aglion contain the UN documents, notes, reports and correspondence documenting the expert assistance to Europe in 1946, - reflecting Aglion's involvement in Economic Reconstruction and Special Studies Division of Department of Economic Affairs and organizational issues, such as the allocation of top-ranking posts, secretariat organization etc created during Aglion's tenure in S-G Executive Office in 1946-1948.
The files of William Stoneman, Special Advisor to S-G contain the clear cables and other correspondence related to trips of S-G Trygve Lie. Also included is correspondence from Gunnar Myrdal, the Executive Secretary of Economic Commission for Europe to Secretaries-General Trygve Lie and Dag Hammarskjold.

Series consists of records created and maintained by the Protocol and Liaison Section of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General not filed in the Secretariat's Central Registry filing system. The Protocol and Liaison Section was responsible to assist delegates with protocol, functions, and with respect to diplomatic Privileges and immunities. Records document Social events and Official functions, flag and emblem issues, General Assembly protocol details, Official visits to the United Nations, the funeral of count Bernadotte, and related. Arrangement is in two sets, the subject files of an earlier period, 1946-1953, and the chronological files of 1958-1969. - the subject files are organized by year.
