Series consists of numbered, unnumbered and only code cables (incoming and outgoing), clear cables, correspondence (correspondents include Richard Nixon), memoranda, United Nations documents, meeting minutes and verbatim reports, handwritten notes, drafts of correspondence and reports, speeches, maps, and photographs documenting Ralph Bunche's tenure at the United Nations. Of special note are personal papers of Ralph Bunche, which include publications; drafts; and handwritten notes on meetings and social events, childhood and family reminiscences, commentaries on racial incidents in the U.S. and notes exchanged with the Secretaries-General. Also included in the series are some original papers of Dag Hammarskjold. Bulk of the materials date from 1947-1971. Subjects include peace-keeping efforts in the Congo; Bahrain; India and Pakistan; Yemen; Cyprus; and the Middle East, including the Palestine Mediator's Mission (1948-1949), the Suez crisis, the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), and the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF). Other subjects include the International Employees Loyalty Board hearing on Ralph Bunche (1954), the International Atomic Energy Agency and conferences on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, Secretary-General meetings, Vietnam, the Survey Group on Overseas Offices, travel, and personnel cases. Records include correspondence, photographs, interviews, press clippings, speeches, statements, press releases, transcripts and summaries of press conferences, and background material and introductions related to Annual Reports (1972-1985). Documented are speeches and other material written by Mr. Urquhart for the Secretaries-General. Series consists of clear cables from the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) which was staffed by UN Military Observers (UNMO's) and responsible for maintaining peace between Israel and Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan. Subjects include administration, staff changes, requests for instructions, updates on the local situation, incident reports, updates on the 1973 Middle East war, and situation reports. Subjects also include the UNCC. Series consists of personal workfiles of Sir Robert Jackson, reports by various UN and diplomatic officials, notes, minutes of meetings, plans and requirements for assistance and aid to Bangladesh and Pakistan, progress reports, press releases, newspaper clippings, photographs, invoices, letters, clear and code cables. Documented are flood relief and reconstruction in Pakistan, repatriation and resettlement of refugees in Pakistan and Bangladesh, development of agriculture and transportation, food shipments, and Chalna Port Shipwreck clearance. Documents created prior to 1972 relate to prior activities in the area and were accumulated as background information. Records created after 1974 contain correspondence related to residual funds from UNROB, staff and policy issues, reports on the continuation of food shipments. Correspondents include Senior Industrial Development Officer Nicky Berendjick, Chef-de Cabinet Chakravarthi Narasimhan, and Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim.
