Series consists of numbered code and clear cables (incoming and outgoing), correspondence, memoranda, incident reports, United Nations documents, daily press briefings, press releases, and meeting summaries regarding the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission to confirm withdrawal of Israeli forces and reestablish the authority of the Lebanese government. Also includes military strength reports and staff lists, briefing notes for the Secretary-General, and some maps. Bulk of the materials date from 1978 to 1986. Subjects include incidents involving the Israel Defence Forces (IDF); the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO); de facto forces (DFF) and armed elements; humanitarian assistance; cease-fire violations; and military matters including deployment, freedom of movement, force structure, and military observer groups.
