Series consists primarily of progress and monthly reports, mission reports, and reports created by various experts. These files originated from the offices of Special Assistant for Congo Civilian Operations Gustavo Duran and Special Advisor for Civilian Affairs in the Congo Sir Alexander MacFarquhar. Records include reports on the role of UNESCO, assistance to provinces, problems of unemployed youth in Leopoldville, and progress reports on agriculture, communications, education, finance, foreign trade, health, labor, magistrature, military, natural resources, and public administration. Also included are mission reports on the investigation into the effects of the overflow of Lake Tanganyika in the City of Albertville and regarding the damage and repair of bridges in Katanga. Reports by experts include investigations of fiscal offices and the treasury, studies of water transportation, summary of the refugee situation in the Congo, the housing situation, developments of the Central Bank, and information on the labor market. This series also includes reports of the Secretary-General on the implementation of Resolution 1746 (XVI) 1962.

These files originated from the offices of Special Assistant for Congo Civilian Operations Gustavo Duran and Special Advisor for Civilian Affairs in the Congo Sir Alexander MacFarquhar. Records are divided into CUNCO (Chief, United Nations Civilian Operations) and COCA (Civilian Affairs in the Congo) sections. Cables provide information on the Congolese budget, siutations of personnel, project submissions in various fields such as communications, financial issues, appointments, food production, public works program, proposed tour of youth leaders to Romania and France, fellowships, budget analysis, and a quarterly report by World Health Organization Administrative Advisors. United Nations Military Observer group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP)

Series documents the activities of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), particularly in mediating the Kashmir problem. Also documented are the efforts of the office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (HICOMREF) in resolving the refugee crisis during the civil strife in East Pakistan (1971), which led to the creation of Bangladesh. Represented are the following United Nations missions: UNEPRO, UNROB, UNROD, and UNIPOM (United Nations East Pakistan Relief Operation, United Nations Relief Operation in Bangladesh, United Nations Relief Operation in Dacca, and United Nations India/Pakistan Observer Mission). Records relate to visits (1965) by Brian E. Urquhart as well as Secretary-General U Thant to the UNMOGIP area. Code cables, reports and other documentary evidence relate to the Kashmir mission (1965); other records relate to the Kashmir/Karachi Agreement. Records include correspondence, which includes clear and code cables, letters, photographs, maps, reports, and press clippings.

Preparatory Commission of the United Nations

Series contains records pertaining to the Preparatory Commission of the United Nations, which was established on 26 June 1945 and phased out by the General Assembly decision of 11 January 1946 that the Executive Secretary of the commission would act as the Secretary-General of the United Nations. The commission was established to make provisional arrangements for the first sessions of the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, and the Trusteeship Council; to establish the Secretariat; to convene the International Court of Justice. The series consists of records collected by Brian Urquhart which pertain to the commission and some records created during the course of the commission's activities. The series also contains records pertaining to Gladwyn Jebb, who served as Executive Secretary of the Commission. Records consist of correspondence, reports, minutes and cables.

Series consists of UNMAM's final report to the Secretary-General (including related annexes and the Secretary-General's final conclusions) (copy), and the Manila Accord, Declaration and Joint Statements drafted by the heads of governments of Indonesia, the Philippines and the Federation of Malaya (copies) relating to the improvement of relations amongst their countries. Also included are clear cables, numbered code cables, memoranda, letters, press releases, and United Nations documents relating to the establishment of the Federation of Malaysia; UNMAM personnel, task instructions, and mission progress; and alleged military incidents between the Federation of Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
