UN. Office of the Secretary-General. Office of the Military Advisor to the Secretary-General (1963-1977)

Series consists of letters, military personnel lists, itineraries and reading files relating to deployment, rotation and miscellaneous logistical arrangements with participating states. Correspondence are between Major Warlino Marz and his military counterparts at various permanent mission to the United Nations.

UN. Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General (1946-1961: Cordier) Office for Special Political Affairs (1958-1972: Bunche)

Series consists of incoming and outgoing clear cables, correspondence, investigative reports, press releases, maps, and photographs regarding massacres, accidents, arrests, evacuations, and other incidents investigated or recorded by the United Nations. Incidents include aircraft accidents such as a Rhodesian aircraft making a forced landing after being hit by small arms fire in Manono; an ONUC Commission report and other documentation regarding the Kindu Incident when thirteen Italian contingent air crew lost their lives due to an invasion of the Congolese National Army Soldiers in Kindu; and investigations into the death of Mme. Felicienne Dister who was killed at her home in Elisabethville. The series also includes incidents involving the Congolese National Army in Katanga and Elisabethville. Correspondents include Under-Secretary for Special Political Affairs Ralph Bunche, Legal Counsel C.A. Stavropoulos, Officer-in-Charge B. F. Osorio-Tafall, and Officer-in-Charge Robert Gardiner.

Documented are administrative matters as well as cease-fire and border violation incidents. Records are incoming and outgoing code cables. Correspondents include Officer of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General Leo Malania, Chief Military Observer Lieutenant-General H. R. Nimmo, Under Secretary and Director of General Services David Vaughan, Principal Secretary of UNCIP Alfred Colban, and Chakravati Narasimhan. Arranged alphabetically by subject.

Series consists of incoming and outgoing clear and code cables and press cables. Subjects include administration of the UN mission to Laos, peace negotiations between Laos and Vietnam over border incidents, economic and technical aid to Laos, and the Laotian political situation. Other subjects include the Economic Commission on Asia. Correspondents include Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General Andrew Cordier and Special Officer J.F. Engers.

Series consists of correspondence, incoming and outgoing clear cables, lists, and reports. These files originated from Special Assistant for Congo Civilian Operations Gustavo Duran and Special Advisor for Civilian Affairs in the Congo Sir Alexander MacFarquhar. Files include personnel administration records, information on hiring and candidates, levels of positions, status of recruitment, positions needed under the police training project, salaries, categories of positions, approval of posts, staff lists, information on titles and contracts, and extensions on contracts. Correspondents include Chief Administrative Officer Ben T. Twigt, Administrative Officer Joseph El Haj, Field Operations Service Administrator Carey Seward, and Special Assistant for Burundi and Rwanda Affairs Jan G. Schumacher.

Series documents United Nations conferences that relate to non-aggressive uses of scientific knowledge and atomic energy. The majority of files pertain to the organization and carrying out of the First United Nations International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1955), the Second United Nations International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1958), and the Third United Nations International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1964). ICPUAE documents include correspondence, reports, programs, handbooks, verbatim records of sessions, bound volumes of conference proceedings and press briefings. Also included are records pertaining to the final Conference on the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency (1956), as well as records pertaining to the IAEA's establishment as an independent organization. A few subject files of the Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation are included. Correspondence, working papers and reports of the United Nations Scientific Advisory Committee and of the Conference on the Application of Science and Technology (1961) are also included (documents of the latter include photographs). The series also contains records of the Administrative Committee on Co-ordination, the Collective Measures Committee and the Additional Measures Committee.

Records include letters, clear cables, numbered code cables, draft statements, Pakistani government press releases, news clippings, notes to file, maps of cease-fire line and Nekowal area, United Nations documents, and other miscellany, relating to UNMOGIP. A variety of issues, many of which are of a confidential nature, are described within the correspondence in considerable detail, including: military events in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, the application of the "cease-fire" agreement, activities of the Military Observers, and the assignments of the Military Observers. In addition to the Chief Military Observer (a few of whose letters are handwritten), other correspondents include: UNMOGIP officials, the head of UNRIP, the head of the Field Operations Service, the head of the Purchase and Transportataion Division, and the United States mission to the United Nations. Executive Assistant to SG (1946-1961: Cordier) Series consists of correspondence, cables, and reports on the activities of Israel-Lebanon Mixed Armistice Commission (ILMAC). Commission set up to resolve minor incidents between Lebanon and Israel over border crossings, overflights by aircraft, illegal cultivation, etc. Series contains some investigation files.
