Series consists of records relating to United Nations peacekeeping operations, stand-by forces and military observers. Includes a number of files dating from 1947 to 1971 that pertain to the establishment of United Nations peacekeeping missions. Miscellaneous files pertaining to peacekeeping include correspondence, reports, official government statements, some photographs and documents regarding proposals for a permanent United Nations peacekeeping force. Also included in the series are files that pertain to the United Nations Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, the United Nations Observation Group in Lebanon (UNOGIL) and the United Nations Yemen Observer Mission (UNYOM). Some records of James Jonah and Lt. General Prem Chand are also included, as well as files containing published material related to peacekeeping by Brigadier F. R. Henn and Colonel L. M. K. Skern.

Series created by various Under-Secretaries-Generals for Special Political Affairs, including at the end of the period, Under-Secretary-General Cordovez. Records include United Nations official documents, numbered code and clear cables (incoming and outgoing), press releases, daily press briefings, correspondence, memoranda, and press clippings regarding the Middle East, including Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and the Palestine LIberation Organization (PLO). Includes meeting summaries, briefing notes for the Secretary-General, agreements, and some maps. Bulk of materials date from 1967 to 1986; only two items date from 1948-1949. Subjects include the question of Palestine; the Arab-Israeli conflict; deportations from Israeli-occupied territories; assistance for the reconstruction and development of Lebanon; and the construction of a Mediterranean-Dead Sea canal. Other subjects include incidents; meetings and conferences; prisoners of war; humanitarian assistance; terrorism; the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); and Palestinian University. Also includes the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF); United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL); and the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). These records originated primarily in the Offices of Special Assistant for Congo Civilian Operations Gustavo Duran and Special Advisor for Civilian Affairs in the Congo Sir Alexander MacFarquhar. Incorporated with these files are records from Political Affairs Officer Fou Tchin Liu, Principal Secretary of the Conciliation Commission for the Congo Dragoslav Protitch, Under-Secretary in Charge of Civilian Affairs in the Congo Godfrey Amachree and Special Assistant for Burundi and Rwanda Affairs Jan G. Schumacher. UN. Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General (1946-1961: Cordier) Office for Special Political Affairs (1958-1972: Bunche)

Series consists of correspondence, reports, certificates, and incoming and outgoing clear cables. and provides information on ONUC's military involvement in the Congo including military history, policies, information on aircraft, reinforcements and withdrawal of troops, and regulations for the United Nations force. Military reports provide details on military conditions, health situations, military progress, and air missions. (Some reports contain civilian operation information, as well.) Files also contain information on and correspondence from military staff and high ranking officers such as General Sean Maceoin, Major-General Christian R. Kaldager, and Major-General C.C. Von Horn. This series also includes material, both military and civilian, on the Kamina, Kitona and Banana bases.

The "Summary of Events for 1963" contains information on the role of the United Nations on the training and reorganization of the Congolese National Army (A.N.C.).
