Series consists of correspondence, press releases, and incoming and outgoing clear cables regarding the cooperation of various foreign governments with the United Nations efforts in the Congo. This support involved both military and civilian operations and included both the reinforcement of United Nations troops and airlifts of relief supplies. The files also contain information on investigations into missing aircraft (Italy); the need for English and French speaking officers (Ireland); information regarding the Nigeria/Mali airlift; issues surrounding the transfer of military forces to civilian status (Pakistan); the Congo's embargo on exports from South Katanga (Portugal); expulsion of Sudanese refugees from the Stanleyville area; and expulsion of the Soviet embassy staff (U.S.S.R.). This series also includes files on the cities of Gaza and Jerusalem. Series consists of numbered and unnumbered code cables, clear cables and situation reports documenting the progress of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Clear and code cables include reports of air violations, attacks on UN vehicles, rotations of battalions, and incident reports; expenditure information and personnel related correspondence (including repatriation, medical and disciplinary actions); humanitarian relief work; and observer difficulties and border violations. Situation reports include general assessments of situation, restriction of movement and ground/logistical activity. Series documents United Nations conferences that relate to non-aggressive uses of scientific knowledge and atomic energy. The majority of files pertain to the organization and carrying out of the First United Nations International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1955), the Second United Nations International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1958), and the Third United Nations International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy (1964). ICPUAE documents include correspondence, reports, programs, handbooks, verbatim records of sessions, bound volumes of conference proceedings and press briefings. Also included are records pertaining to the final Conference on the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency (1956), as well as records pertaining to the IAEA's establishment as an independent organization. A few subject files of the Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation are included. Correspondence, working papers and reports of the United Nations Scientific Advisory Committee and of the Conference on the Application of Science and Technology (1961) are also included (documents of the latter include photographs).
