The task of the United Nations Representative in West Irian (UNRWI), Fernando Ortiz-Sanz, was to participate in arrangements for the act of self-determination. West Irian was formerly known as West New Guinea, Irian Jaya, and as of 2012 it is part of Indonesia with special autonomy status.

Included are incoming and outgoing cables, both in code and clear, and correspondence between UNRWI, with many to and from Ortiz-Sanz, with United Nations Headquarters in New York, and the Indonesian government. These concern events in West Irian, and the activities of UNRWI. Also included are inter-office memos between UNRWI members; data concerning the population, geography, and other characteristics of West Irian; and petitions from many individuals and groups in West Irian concerning the issue of self-determination or Indonesian rule. Acknowledgements to the petitions, a registry of petitions, and miscellaneous clippings and other documents are included.

Series consists of letters, memoranda, reports and incoming and outgoing clear and code cables (copies) relating to military activities and administration, including operations, logistics, troop deployment, rotations, repatriation and miscellaneous personnel matters. Primary correspondents are UNEF I force commanders and permanent missions to the United Nations.

Series consists of letters, military personnel lists, itineraries and reading files relating to deployment, rotation and miscellaneous logistical arrangements with participating states. Correspondence are between Major Warlino Marz and his military counterparts at various permanent mission to the United Nations.

Series documents the 1956 war between Israel and Egypt in the Sinai desert and the military action of France and England for control over the Suez Canal, including actions by the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) and the first UN Emergency Force (UNEF I) during the conflicts. Records include correspondence, press clippings, and cables. Correspondents are Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold, Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General Andrew Cordier, UNTSO Acting Chief of Staff Byron V. Leary, and UNEF Chief of Staff E.L.M. Burns. Series contains cables, correspondence, reports, photographs, and maps related to activities of Hashemite Jordan Kingdom-Israel Mixed Armistice Commission (HJK-I-MAC). Commission set up to resolve minor incidents between Jordan and Israel over border crossings, overflights by aircraft, illegal cultivation, etc. Much of the correspondence is between UNTSO (responsible for control of the various MAC's) and UN headquarters, but some is also between Jordan or Israel and UNTSO or UN headquarters. Also contains investigation files undertaken by UN military observers (UNMO) which include photographs and written reports of the incidents. Series also contains files on Mt. Scopus in Jerusalem, which was under the authority of the HJK-I-MAC chairman.
