Records consist of letters, memoranda, clear cables, numbered code cables, lists of observers, observer performance references, and observer guidelines, relating to the staffing of the observer contingent for UNMOGIP. Primary correspondents include: the Chief Military Observer, other UNMOGIP officials, and representatives of those missions whose countries were providing observer personnel. Series consists of letters, memoranda, clear cables, numbered code cables, reports of the UNCI Principal Secretary, press releases, texts of the General Assembly President's speeches and broadcasts (copies), and United Nations documents relating to UNCI administration, as well as information on military developments and political negotiations with representatives of the Netherlands and Indonesia. The reports are addressed to the Principal Director of the Department of Security Council Affairs D. Protitch. Most of the letters are Andrew W. Cordier's copies of correspondence between the Principal Secretary J.A. Romanos and Protitch. Cordier's correspondence is primarily with Romanos. Arranged in broad subject categories.

Series consists of a log entitled "UNMOGIP reports on complaints and violations" consisting of cease-fire and border violations alleged by India or Pakistan about the other (typescript). Information includes complaint particulars and the Chief Military Observer's decisions on whether a violation had in fact occurred. Reports dated 1949-1957 are initialled by H. R. Nimmo, the Chief Military Observer. Until 1958 the log was filed in two binders (with custom-printed covers); thereafter, log pages were not necessarily filed together. Some reports from 1959-1960 and from 1964 were interfiled, some of them formatted as correspondence, with series 13 - 'Incident files relating to UNMOGIP.' Arranged chronologically.

Series was created, in large part, by Andrew Cordier, who served as Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General 1946-1961. Subsequently a couple of files were added by Ralph Bunche in his capacity as Under-Secretary-General for Special Political Affairs (1958-1972). Records include correspondence, incoming and outgoing code cables, incoming and outgoing clear cables, administrative files, reports, photographs, and maps related to the activities of the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the Middle East. Documented are administrative matters, incidents, political matters, the status of UNTSO within the area, activities of the Mixed Armistice Commissions (MAC's), the establishment of Government House, truce negotiations, and regional conflicts in 1948, 1956, and 1967. The files include information on the convening of parliament; visits to New York, London, and Italy by Congolese Premier Mr. Cyrille Adoula; correspondence regarding various government issues by Adoula; records relating to Prime Minister Moise Tshombe; draft laws designing the court system; a Christmas address to the Congolese people by Mobutu Sese Seko (1966); general information on new provinces; agreements between the United Nations and the Congo; drafts and copies of the constitution; and a speech by President Kasavubu.

Series consists of incoming and outgoing code, clear, unnumbered, top secret, and only cables, and telex conversations primarily between high ranking United Nations personnel in New York and Leopoldville relating to the military and civilian operations in the Congo. Cables were also sent to or received from other cities, such as Elisabethville, Jerusalem, Geneva, Gaza, Beirut, Mogadiscio and Brussels. Code cables detail various matters relating to United Nations intervention, creation of the Congolese government, training of the Congolese army and the existence or need of mercenary troops, unrest between the Lumumba Youth Party and the United Nations and Belgians, the refugee situation, evacuation of Belgian military personnel, and food distribution. Clear cables include information on the international Famine Relief Fund and personnel issues such as salary and appointments in the relief and public works administrations. Telex conversations focus on various aspects of the military and civilian operations in the Congo including hostile actions towards ONUC personnel, military reinforcements, and food deliveries. Housed separately are five feet of duplicate code cables, unnumbered, top secret, only, and clear cables regarding a wide range of subjects including military events, administrative issues, political developments, and hostages.
Correspondents include Under-Secretary for Special Political Affairs Ralph Bunche, Officer-in-Charge Andrew Cordier, and Special Advisor for Civilian Affairs in the Congo Sir Alexander Macfarquhar.

Series consists of letters, clear and code cables, maps of Rwanda-Burundi, photographs, newspaper clippings, memoranda, press releases and reports relating to UN missions and commissions in Africa. The bulk of records (1.5 linear feet) pertain to the UN trust territory of Rwanda-Burundi, and include background information, administrative issues, internal security and border problems. The rest of the documents relate to the assistance programs, border incidents and refugees in other areas of Africa, such as Cameroons, Togo, Somalia, Ethiopia, Mogadiscio, Libya, Angola, Rhodesia, Mozambique, Guinea, Ivory Coast and Congo. Series consists of correspondence, reports, and meeting summary records of the Conciliation Commission for the Congo.

The records detail the Conciliation Commission's main responsibilities which consisted of the study of the situation in the Congo and the promotion of conciliation between opposing political groups in the Republic. Minutes discuss the processes involved in strengthening the unity, territorial integrity, and political independence of the Congo within the consititutional and legal framework of the Republic. The Commission's members included representatives from Ethiopia, Liberia, Morrocco, Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, and Tunisia and Jaja A. Wachuku of Nigeria as President.
