The task of the United Nations Representative in West Irian (UNRWI), Fernando Ortiz-Sanz, was to participate in arrangements for the act of self-determination. West Irian was formerly known as West New Guinea, Irian Jaya, and as of 2012 it is part of Indonesia with special autonomy status.

Included are incoming and outgoing cables, both in code and clear, and correspondence between UNRWI, with many to and from Ortiz-Sanz, with United Nations Headquarters in New York, and the Indonesian government. These concern events in West Irian, and the activities of UNRWI. Also included are inter-office memos between UNRWI members; data concerning the population, geography, and other characteristics of West Irian; and petitions from many individuals and groups in West Irian concerning the issue of self-determination or Indonesian rule. Acknowledgements to the petitions, a registry of petitions, and miscellaneous clippings and other documents are included.

Series consists of incoming and outgoing code, clear, unnumbered, top secret, and only cables, and telex conversations primarily between high ranking United Nations personnel in New York and Leopoldville relating to the military and civilian operations in the Congo. Cables were also sent to or received from other cities, such as Elisabethville, Jerusalem, Geneva, Gaza, Beirut, Mogadiscio and Brussels. Code cables detail various matters relating to United Nations intervention, creation of the Congolese government, training of the Congolese army and the existence or need of mercenary troops, unrest between the Lumumba Youth Party and the United Nations and Belgians, the refugee situation, evacuation of Belgian military personnel, and food distribution. Clear cables include information on the international Famine Relief Fund and personnel issues such as salary and appointments in the relief and public works administrations. Telex conversations focus on various aspects of the military and civilian operations in the Congo including hostile actions towards ONUC personnel, military reinforcements, and food deliveries. Housed separately are five feet of duplicate code cables, unnumbered, top secret, only, and clear cables regarding a wide range of subjects including military events, administrative issues, political developments, and hostages.

The United Nations Suez Clearance Operations (UNSCO) task was to restore the Suez Canal to operating condition after it was blocked by debris as a result of the 1956 Israel/Egypt War. UNSCO operated between December 1956 and April 1957.

Included are correspondence, reports, working papers, clippings, press releases; and salvage lists, maps and charts showing wreck locations and UNSCO operations.
These concern the dredging of the canal; rehabilitation of maintenance workshops, restoration of navigational lighting and telecommunications; and the resumption of canal traffic.
