Public Relations and the Press

Series contains press documentation, including the Office/Department of Public Information (DPI) daily press briefings, UN-or-member-nation-related press clippings compiled by DPI, and reviews of the English (and German) language press. Also included is a set of files on United Nations Day planning and communication. Records are primarily official documents and clippings, with some correspondence (the latter relating largely to United Nations Day). Arranged in sets of files, no particular order.

Principal Organs - General Assembly

Series contains the General Assembly session files (the 26th Session to the 36th Session, as well as the 6th Special Session to the 11th Special Session). Records are primarily UN documents, with additional subfiles containing correspondence, handwritten notes, press releases, and so forth. Appended is a set of files on the 'Permanent Representatives of United Nations Member States'. Arranged in the following broad categories (and therein chronologically, numbered by meeting): General Assembly Sessions (regular and special), then a set of 'exxcerpts from verbatim records', and finally the chronological set of files concerning 'Permanent Representatives of United Nations Member States'.

Political - Disarmament

Series documents the period of world concern about the nuclear power struggle, particularly the period when the annual World Disarmament Conference was held, 1972-1976. The chronological disarmament files span 1972-1981. Records include correspondence, code cables, press releases, speeches, and documents. Correspondents include the Under-Secretary-General for Political - and Security Council Affairs and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the Committee on Disarmament. Arranged in broad topical categories in the following order: 'chronological files', 'World Disarmament Conference', 'Advisory Board / Committee on Disarmament', and miscellaneous records (and therein chronologically).

Political - Country Files

Series documents the Secretary-General's contacts and information gathering relating to the member nations of the United Nations. Records include correspondence with heads-of-states, foreign ministers and representatives, as well as code cables, handwritten notes, speeches, UN documents, news clippings, photographs, etc. Arranged in several alphabetical - sequences by country, with an additional subseries on 'Troubled areas' at the end.
