Series consists of the papers retained by Ralph J. Bunche throughout his employment with the UN. Subjects include the 1949 Israel-TransJordan General Armistice Agreement (annexes contain maps); the 1949 Israel-Syrian General Armistice Agreement; the Convention d'Armistice; the 1949 Israel-Lebanese General Armistice agreement (with map); armistice negotiations; and congratulatory messages conferred upon Bunche for his receipt of various awards and honors. Files contain the original armistice agreements with signatures.

Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim - Political - country files - Middle East

Series is comprised of documents related to United Nations diplomacy and peacekeeping missions in the Middle East, particularly Israel, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Cyprus, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and the West Bank. Historical and subject files contain correspondence, reports, statements, cables and press clippings related to the Egypt/Israel disengagement agreements, the Israel/Syria Disengagement Agreement (1974), Camp David agreements, the Cairo Conference (1978), and the Secretary-General's and Brian Urquhart's trips to the Middle East. Files regarding the hijacking of aircraft, assassination attempts and terrorism are included, as well as files pertaining to the Wadi al Ayn incident in south Lebanon (1980) and other incidents. Series also includes subject files, clear cables and code cables of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), the United Nations Emergency Force (I and II), the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), and the United Nations Middle East Mission (UNMEM). The series also includes subject files concerning Sadruddin Aga Khan's mission in Lebanon; correspondence and statements of the Palestine Liberation Organization; ground plans, maps, photographs and documents concerning the assault on Government House in Jerusalem in 1967; and records pertaining to the mission in Jerusalem of Ernest A. United Nations Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP)

Series documents the efforts of the United Nations Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) to safeguard the sovereignty of the Cyprus government during a period of armed conflict between Turkish and Greek Cypriots. Included are records that document the political and military situation on the island as well as UNFICYP Intercommunal Talks (1971-1982). Records include code cables, letters, press clippings, and photographs. Correspondence via code cable between Turk, Greek, Cypriot and UN officials comprise the bulk of the series. Arranged in the following broad categories: code cables, correspondence, and subject files, which include records that document incidents and episodes.
