Meetings

Series documents confidential meetings held with various heads-of-state and foreign representatives. Records are primarily meeting minutes and other confidential notes. Arranged chronologically.

Correspondence - Personal

Series documents Secretary-General's correspondence with VIP's and friends including holiday greetings, correspondence with universities and colleges, gifts received, invitations accepted and refused, and thank-you letters. Essentially unarranged, although like file titles are generally arranged together.

Public Relations and the Press

Series contains press documentation, including the Office/Department of Public Information (DPI) daily press briefings, UN-or-member-nation-related press clippings compiled by DPI, and reviews of the English (and German) language press. Also included is a set of files on United Nations Day planning and communication. Records are primarily official documents and clippings, with some correspondence (the latter relating largely to United Nations Day). Arranged in sets of files, no particular order.

Peacekeeping - Vietnam and Indo-China

Series comprises the documented record of the Secretary-General's involvement in diplomacy on the Vietnam war (1972-1973), and the subsequent humanitarian and reconstruction assistance on the Indo-China peninsula (1975-1981), primarily Kampuchea and Vietnam. Records include copies of agreements, correspondence (including cables and incoming war protest correspondence), discussion papers, press releases, etc. Includes files on the International Conference on Vietnam (Jan. 1973 to Dec. 1974) and on the Cambodian/Kampuchean refugee problem (May 1979 to Apr. 1980). Correspondents include high level UN officials, Henry Kissinger (Secretary of State, USA), and Nguyen Thi Binh (Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of South Vietnam). Arranged in two groupings (Vietnam, followed by Indo-China), and therein by topical categories (original order).

Specialized Agencies

Series documents the liaison of the Secretary-General with the specialized agencies of the United Nations: the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization (IMCO), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the World Meterological Organization (WMO). Records include correspondence, handwritten notes, news clippings, etc. Arranged alphabetically by organization.

Political - Disarmament

Series documents the period of world concern about the nuclear power struggle, particularly the period when the annual World Disarmament Conference was held, 1972-1976. The chronological disarmament files span 1972-1981. Records include correspondence, code cables, press releases, speeches, and documents. Correspondents include the Under-Secretary-General for Political - and Security Council Affairs and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the Committee on Disarmament. Arranged in broad topical categories in the following order: 'chronological files', 'World Disarmament Conference', 'Advisory Board / Committee on Disarmament', and miscellaneous records (and therein chronologically).
