Series consists of letters, numbered and unnumbered code cables, clear cables, a situation report by Ambassador Herbert de Ribbing, notes on conversations, and press releases regarding hostilities between Cambodia and Thailand which led to the Secretary-General's decision to send mediators to the area.

This series relates to two missions, one headed by Nils Gussing, Special Representative to the Secretary-General from 1963 to 1964 and the other headed by Ambassdor Herebet de Ribbing, Special Representative to the Secretary-General from 1966 to 1967.

Documented are the mission's itineraries, staff matters, meetings and updates. Correspondents include Chef-de-Cabinet C. V. Narasimhan, Secretaty-General U Thant, Representives of the Permanent Mission of Thailand, Herbert de Ribbing and Nils Gussing.

The task of the United Nations Representative in West Irian (UNRWI), Fernando Ortiz-Sanz, was to participate in arrangements for the act of self-determination. West Irian was formerly known as West New Guinea, Irian Jaya, and as of 2012 it is part of Indonesia with special autonomy status.

Included are incoming and outgoing cables, both in code and clear, and correspondence between UNRWI, with many to and from Ortiz-Sanz, with United Nations Headquarters in New York, and the Indonesian government. These concern events in West Irian, and the activities of UNRWI. Also included are inter-office memos between UNRWI members; data concerning the population, geography, and other characteristics of West Irian; and petitions from many individuals and groups in West Irian concerning the issue of self-determination or Indonesian rule. Acknowledgements to the petitions, a registry of petitions, and miscellaneous clippings and other documents are included.

Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, handwritten documents, incoming and outgoing cables, code cables, telegrams, draft reports, meeting reports, final reports, draft manuscripts, statements, summary reports, petitions, translations, instructions, agreements, press clippings, logs, rosters, chronologies, notes, diagrams, statistics, periodicals, resumes, itineraries, and routing slips.

Series consists of personal workfiles of Sir Robert Jackson, reports by various UN and diplomatic officials, notes, minutes of meetings, plans and requirements for assistance and aid to Bangladesh and Pakistan, progress reports, press releases, newspaper clippings, photographs, invoices, letters, clear and code cables. Documented are flood relief and reconstruction in Pakistan, repatriation and resettlement of refugees in Pakistan and Bangladesh, development of agriculture and transportation, food shipments, and Chalna Port Shipwreck clearance. Documents created prior to 1972 relate to prior activities in the area and were accumulated as background information.
