Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, code cables, committee notices, minutes and agendas, reports, news clippings, press briefings, books, pamphlets, handbooks, United Nations documents, organization charts, speeches and invitations of files created and maintained by Martin W. Hill during his various positions at the United Nations. There are some background documents relating to the League of Nations ranging in date from 1930 to 1946, but the bulk of the material is from 1944 to 1976.

Subject areas include the Department of Economic and Social Affairs consisting of reports of working groups, regional commissions, and conference and administrative questions; draft studies, proposals and recommendations for implementation of the structural and organization of the Secretariat and affiliates, such as UNICEF, UNESCO and UNITAR; technical assistance; correspondence with non-government organizations; repatriation; tourism and travel; budget; natural disasters; political, economical and social matters; peaceful uses of atomic energy;and Economic Commission for Europe. Series dates primarily from 1961-1973 - there are a few items dated 1980.
