Executive Assistant to SG (1946-1961: Cordier)

Series contains cables, correspondence, reports, photographs, and maps related to activities of Hashemite Jordan Kingdom-Israel Mixed Armistice Commission (HJK-I-MAC). Commission set up to resolve minor incidents between Jordan and Israel over border crossings, overflights by aircraft, illegal cultivation, etc. Much of the correspondence is between UNTSO (responsible for control of the various MAC's) and UN headquarters, but some is also between Jordan or Israel and UNTSO or UN headquarters. Also contains investigation files undertaken by UN military observers (UNMO) which include photographs and written reports of the incidents. Series also contains files on Mt. Scopus in Jerusalem, which was under the authority of the HJK-I-MAC chairman.

Series consists of reports submitted to the Executive Assistant (Andrew Cordier), and later to the Under Secretary-General (Bunche), by the Chief Military Observer (typescript), reporting on all aspects of UNMOGIP. The administration reports, which were issued monthly (January 1951 to October 1953), report on the numbers of observers and changes in personnel, as well as on their medical problems, and on other matters such as equipment, flights, transportation, and communications. The operations reports, issued twice per month (numbered 1 through 356, dated November 1950 to September 1965), contain summaries of complaints and incidents. Arranged by type of report.

Early records are those of Andrew Cordier, Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General, and later records were those of Ralph Bunche, Under-Secretary-General for Special Political Affairs. One incident case file ('Nekowal incident' 1955-1956) contains letters, news clippings, telexes, and a map showing Nekowal area (manuscript). The primary correspondent is the Chief Military Observer.
