Series consists of the signed petition sheets of nearly one-million individuals that were presented to Under-Secretary-General for Special Political Affairs Diego Cordovez by Ambassador Zarif of Afghanistan. Petitions were presented to Cordovez sometime in July, 1982. This series represents a sample from the original four-foot accession. Petitions feature decorative drawings and thumbprints above each signature.

Subject files document diplomatic relations between Soviet Union and Afghanistan from 1980-1984, the Secretary-General's visits to Pakistan and Afghanistan (1981), the Iran hostage crisis of 1979-1981 and diplomatic relations between the United States and Iran. Under-Secretary-General for Special Political Affairs (1958-1972: Bunche)

Series consists of letters, clear and code cables, maps of Rwanda-Burundi, photographs, newspaper clippings, memoranda, press releases and reports relating to UN missions and commissions in Africa. The bulk of records (1.5 linear feet) pertain to the UN trust territory of Rwanda-Burundi, and include background information, administrative issues, internal security and border problems. The rest of the documents relate to the assistance programs, border incidents and refugees in other areas of Africa, such as Cameroons, Togo, Somalia, Ethiopia, Mogadiscio, Libya, Angola, Rhodesia, Mozambique, Guinea, Ivory Coast and Congo. Correspondents include Executive Assistant to SG Andrew Cordier, Under-Secretary-General in charge of Congo Godfrey Amachree, Under-Secretary-General for Trusteeship and Information from Non-Self-Governing Territories Dragoslav Protitch and Secretary-General U Thant.

No. 8, 15 April 1944, were to prepare requirements estimates; negotiate allocations of supplies; develop specifications and standards for supplies to be purchased; cooperate with other UNRRA divisions in achieving orderly, balanced programs, analyzing relevant reports and data, providing advice and information on agricultural commodities, and developing time schedules; and negotiate with national procurement agencies in arranging for purchase and deliveries.
At the peak of operations (about July 1946), the Division consisted of the Office of the Director and five major Branches: Field Services, Agriculture (and Fisheries) Equipment, livestock, General Farm Supplies, and Program Analysis and Control, each broken into a number of sections and units. A Records and Shipping Section, at that time a part of the Office of the Director, seems later to have been incorporated with the Progress Control Section of the Program Analysis and Control Branch.
