        Established 26 June 1945 by means of the Agreement on Interim Arrangements (signed in San Francisco by the charter members of the United Nations).

        Phased out by General Assembly decision that the Executive Secretary would act as the Secretary-General of the United Nations on 11 January 1946; ceased to exist 2 February 1946, when the Secretary-General was appointed.

        Purpose of the commission: to make provisional arrangements for the first sessions of the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, and the Trusteeship Council; to establish the Secretariat; to convene the International Court of Justice.

        Successor organization: United Nations.

        The Commission was comprised of one representative from each government signatory to the Charter.

        Powers were exercized by the Executive Committee, which established multiple committees.

        An Executive Secretary, Gladwyn Jebb, served as head of the staff. Chairman of the Commission was Eduardo Zuleta Angel; Vice-Chairmen were D. Z. Manuilsky and P.-H Spaak. Members of the Commission and officers of the Executive Committee were: Manuel Bianchi (Chile), Nasrollah Entezam (Iran), H. V. Evatt (Australia), C. de Freitas-Valle (Brazil), A. A.
