The geographical extent of known famine in UNRRA's operating sphere in China which includes the former fighting and occupied zones east of the heavy line on the map is shown by the shaded areas charted from reports of UNRRA in regional survey teams Although a general food shortage exists in many of the unshaded areas, only the critical starvation regions reported by UNRRA field workers are shown Because of the vast extent of the liberated territory, continuing reports from the field may reveal additional acute hunger spots In the regions shown, millions of human beings are in dire need of quick food relief
