Scope and content
Series was created, in large part, by Andrew Cordier, who served as Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General 1946-1961. Subsequently a couple of files were added by Ralph Bunche in his capacity as Under-Secretary-General for Special Political Affairs (1958-1972). Records include correspondence, incoming and outgoing code cables, incoming and outgoing clear cables, administrative files, reports, photographs, and maps related to the activities of the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the Middle East. Documented are administrative matters, incidents, political matters, the status of UNTSO within the area, activities of the Mixed Armistice Commissions (MAC's), the establishment of Government House, truce negotiations, and regional conflicts in 1948, 1956, and 1967. Correspondents include Acting UN Mediator for Palestine Ralph J. Bunche, Assistant to the Executive Assistant Leo Malania, and UNTSO Chiefs of Staff William Riley, Vagn Bennike, E.L.M. Burns, and Carl C. von Horn. Arranged in approximate alphabetical sequence.
